A classic connection between the Old Testament and the New. By the way Isaiah is also filled with references to Syria. Just a few thousand years of conflict! There's no denying the Bible is always relevant.

Isaiah 9:6

For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor,
Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

  1. Thanks for sharing. I admit to be not conversant with the Old Testament. So I imagine the relevance of this OT passage is it serves as a precursor to the coming of Jesus Christ?

    1. Yes. I have found the Old Testament fascinating. I hope you will consider getting to know it better. It gives one a broader perspective.

    2. Mark Twain's "Captain Stormfield's Visit to Heaven" reminded us that Heaven is hell if we can't speak the language. The language of God & Jesus is Hebrew. OT Truth resides within the Hebrew words, not in Webster's translations. Get a good set of lexicons! Learn the language of heaven.

      Humans, like dog and horse, has a nature that is programable through sayings, maxims, and proverbs. The litmus of speech was the OT Wisdom's test to discern the wise from the fool. Perceiving those united by those with a vocabulary of divine authority, from those void of any divine influence! To "say is to bring the soul into light. God's biblical words are words of life for they create motion unto those that discover them. @larrygrowe
