I do think these are times of difficulty and these descriptions fit so well the people running for President. They each have good qualities too, but the advice to avoid such people is very sound. Would that we could.

2 Timothy 3:1-5
But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty.
For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy,
heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good,
treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God,
having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.

I can think of a couple of really good examples of this currently in the news.

1 Timothy 6:9
But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation, into a snare, into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.

We are so good at lying to ourselves and then believing the lies to the point of truth. The active work it takes to be honest with ourselves is God's work. And doing God's work is the only thing that pays off.

Jeremiah 17:9-10
“The heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; Who can know it?
I, the Lord, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings.

I rejoice that I am a tiny piece of dust in the sand that cushions the building blocks that are held together by the cornerstone, Christ. This is the Lord's doing.

Psalm 118:21-24
I thank you that you have answered me and have become my salvation.
The stone that the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.
This is the Lord's doing; it is marvelous in our eyes.
This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

Yes He has and I am eternally grateful.

Colossians 1:13
He has delivered us from the domain of darkness and transferred us to the kingdom of his beloved Son,

It is so easy to get into a spiral of ugly thinking. You have to stop it before it takes over your life. Practice Paul's advice to the Philippians it will make your life so much better.

Philippians 4:8-9
Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things.
What you have learned and received and heard and seen in me—practice these things, and the God of peace will be with you.
