Are you a passing wind? We turn to Him after horrible things happen, then we feel better and go about life as before. Try a little faith, be steadfast for once, it will not kill you.

Psalm 78:34-39
When he killed them, they sought him;
they repented and sought God earnestly.
They remembered that God was their rock,
the Most High God their redeemer.
But they flattered him with their mouths;
they lied to him with their tongues.
Their heart was not steadfast toward him;
they were not faithful to his covenant.
Yet he, being compassionate,
atoned for their iniquity
and did not destroy them;
he restrained his anger often
and did not stir up all his wrath.
He remembered that they were but flesh,
a wind that passes and comes not again.

This is how bureaucracies get started! We do need good division of labor, but each of us should 'serve tables' once in a while. That one-on-one love also keeps us near to God.

Acts 6:1-4
Now in those days, when the number of the disciples was multiplying, there arose a complaint against the Hebrews by the Hellenists, because their widows were neglected in the daily distribution.
Then the twelve summoned the multitude of the disciples and said, “It is not desirable that we should leave the word of God and serve tables.
Therefore, brethren, seek out from among you seven men of good reputation, full of the Holy Spirit and wisdom, whom we may appoint over this business;
but we will give ourselves continually to prayer and to the ministry of the word.”

It is such a good fantasy to be the hero, the one who acts to save the day. But Jesus reminds us that it is not about you and me, sometimes we need to sheath our swords. It is God's world and He orders it His way.

John 18:10-11
Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it and struck the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.
So Jesus said to Peter, “Put your sword into the sheath. Shall I not drink the cup which My Father has given Me?”

These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

He already chose you. Just figure out what fruit he wants you to bear. Then bear it with love.

John 15:16
You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.

Don't stumble around! This red letter wisdom is right there for everyone who reads these verses. Walk while you have the light.

John 12:35-36
Then Jesus said to them, “A little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you; he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going.
While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light. These things Jesus spoke, and departed, and was hidden from them.
