That sentiment is often a pious thing to say, but God already wrote the names in his Book of Life before the world was created. And the Lord is the one who causes us to believe. It is a gift that we did not earn. The thing is we don't really know who believes, besides ourselves, because we can't see into the "heart" of another person.
