Come join me for my 8th year reading the Holy Bible from beginning to end. The Bible has changed my life. It will change yours. Take a little time each day and persevere. God is near, bring Him nearer. (Check the lower right side of my blog for links to a 1-year Bible reading program and to Bible Gateway.)

Genesis 1:1
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.

  1. Which version is best and how much do we read a day? Want to do this just seems intimidating.

    1. Try http://biblehub.com/ it has several versions. Sometimes it's best to read different translations to see what resonates.

  2. What ever version you read is best, Tom. If you've never read the bible in a year you may want an easier read like the NLT or Niv. I prefer the NKJV. Go to oneyearbibleonline. You'll get an Old Testament, New Testament, Psalm and Proverbs. If you select the one year readings, just click on January and it's all there for you.

  3. I use the Complete Jewish Bible because it's the closest in translating from Hebrew & Greek into English.

Start at the BEGINNING and let God lead you, regarding how much to read. :)

  4. NKJV is a much better translation than the NIV, which is a bit legalistic.

  5. I read a different version each year. Last year I read NLT which is much more accurate than I assumed it would be. I loved it so much I'm reading the same translation again this year. I've looked up a number of words in original Hebrew and Greek and found this to be a good translation.

  6. I've tried reading Old Testament, a piece of the NT, a little Psalm and Proverb and I get lost. I usually use a Chronological NLT Bible that goes in Chronological order but doesn't skip around. Now with that said, I read a Proverb a day anyway - always figured there were 31 for a reason. I also read praise from a Psalm everyday because it's wonderful. If you've never read the Bible through I hope you will join Kim and read it this year. It's God's voice in print and will change your life.

    1. I should have added that most people love reading it exactly as the plan Kim is using. I just loose where I am when I do that, but it is much preferred by most.

  7. The ESV Bible also has a nice option: If you click on plans and select every day in the word, you can also have an audio version. Same format: Old Testament, New Testament, Psalm, and Proverbs.

  8. The Daily Walk Bible is organized by date like a daily devotional book. So you always know if you're ahead or behind. That makes it a lot easier to read cover to cover in a year. Plus, while it's a perfectly valid translation, it reads easier than many others. It allowed me to go C. to C.

  9. In Genesis 1:14 we see that He created His Appointed Times (Feasts) before He created man! There were no Jews! Those are for ALL who love Him! Without observing them, we lose precious and intimate time with Him! Worse than blowing off an important doctor appointment!
