When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?
Matthew 10:29-31 (quoting Jesus)
Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? And not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father.
But even the hairs of your head are all numbered.
Fear not, therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.

Sparrows are small, in great numbers, intrusive, assert their right of possession, have the least reverence for any place or thing. They even appropriate the altars of God for their nests. In losing its mate the sparrow will sit on the housetop alone, and lament by the hour. These birds were caught in great numbers, not for food, but as pests, destroyed as a worthless nuisance. An inconvenience like NYC pigeons or Metro rats (geese)!
ReplyDeleteTo God, life in all His created forms, particularly human life, is not about market value, or economic worth. Our soul is priceless. @larrygrowe
