And isn't it true that so many of those "little lies" are indulged in to (presumably) make ourselves or others feel better? And of course issues of omission and comission enter here, too.
I'm laughing now, remembering a book from my youth whose title was, "Where Did You Go? Out. What Did You Do? Nothing." Uh-huh. ;)

Covet (desire) leads to false witness, to stealing, to adultery, to murder. Science gauged evil of serial killers by their stealth capacity to lie. White lies grow to lying with a straight face, to the passing lie detector tests, to brutality, to torture. Yet, stealth for 40 years from families. @larrygrowe
