Why does stuff like this make women crazy? It says by your mere behavior you have the power to win your husbands to the word. What is wrong with that? Also, at this stage I am up for imperishable beauty.

1 Peter 3:1-4
Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives,
when they see your respectful and pure conduct.
Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear—
but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious.

  1. Thank you Kim, I'm standing shoulder to shoulder with you on this (and all your other encouraging posts!). I love this scripture/truth and I'm no doormat.

  2. Romans, like Jews, viewed Christians as antisocial, as atheists.

In Rome, Christianity spread faster among wives. Jewish husbands had more to lose socially from public conversion to an unpopular minority religion. Peter sought to reduce mixed-marital tensions resulting from Roman and Jewish hostility towards Jewish Christians. Silence was considered a great virtue for women. But, wives were expected to obey their husbands including allegiance to their husbands’ Jewish religion. @larrygrowe

  3. There is nothing wrong with it if you're a believer and desire to honor God and follow His word. However, women in our culture (sadly it's even spread into Christian women's thinking to some degree as well) read a passage like this and feel it instructs them to be a doormat. They would wrong, and they would also miss the very words you've highlighted because they only see "be subject" right before. That's why it drives women in our modern culture crazy.
