James 5:19-20
My brothers, if anyone among you wanders from the truth and someone brings him back,
let him know that whoever brings back a sinner from his wandering will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins.

As I contemplate your scripture reference the words I read earlier today come to mind. From Romans 1: 18 - 32 and think the fields are rich and full for the harvest, and we are called as believers to not be confounded by the overwhelming number of opportunities but rather to focus on those individuals God prepares and places in our path each day,
ReplyDeleteForgiveness is a personal affair perplexing even Christians. Sir Walter Scott said, "Revenge is the sweetest morsel to the mouth ever cooked in hell!" It does more harm to those who eat it.
ReplyDeleteForgiveness is unique and central to Christianity. Lords Prayer: "Forgive us trespasses!" Apostle Creed: "To Believe in forgiveness of sins!" The prodigal son was about forgiveness. .
OT Jewish belief , lost morals of one who turned away no longer counted. Some Jews regarded some forms of renunciation as unforgivable. But, NT Jesus welcomed the sinner back. Jesus forgave seventy times seven! Jesus was about redemption, not punishment.
Christian willingness to forgive, to transcend hate and revenge is most spiritually redeeming factor in history of mankind. Hope depends upon it. @larrygrowe
