I thank God whom I serve, as did my ancestors, with a clear conscience, as I remember you constantly in my prayers night and day.
As I remember your tears, I long to see you, that I may be filled with joy.
I am reminded of your sincere faith, a faith that dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and your mother Eunice and now, I am sure, dwells in you as well.
For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands,
for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
I don't know that I totally agree with your comments, or either I misconstrued them, knowing me! Did you mean that Timothy was a legacy in the sense that he "inherited" his faith? Just wondering...
ReplyDeleteThere is a PREREQ to faith and trust, known as pillars of character, fortitude, temperance, tolerance, and justice. We are not born with beliefs, values, principles. Timothy’s mother and grandmother, Eunice and Lois, were early Christian converts likely through Paul’s ministry. Sincere faith means possessing heartfelt trust, not merely professing religious words. Faith requires us to be steadfast and unwavering under pressure. facing opposition. To trust God is a decision not an emotion that we feel. @larrygrowe
