Now he was teaching in one of the synagogues on the Sabbath.
And behold, there was a woman who had had a disabling spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not fully straighten herself.
When Jesus saw her, he called her over and said to her, “Woman, you are freed from your disability.”
And he laid his hands on her, and immediately she was made straight, and she glorified God.
Kim,
ReplyDeleteThanks for commenting on this story. There is a key word in this story that is repeated in so many of the Jesus stories. [ "Jesus saw" ] We tend not "to see" the marginalize who are in close proximity of ourselves. Just paging through the Gospels that phrase shows up so often. Mk 5, the woman who was bleeding for 12 years who by those standards would have been "unclean," vs32 "Jesus kept looking to see who had touched him." And even the Rich Young Ruler who came to Jesus and said "what am I still lacking?" --- Mark says, Jesus looked and loved Him but also told him the truth -- "sell your stuff." This theme of Jesus "seeing" and "looking into the eyes and souls" of people was transforming. --L Moyer
