Christians are cross-bearer but with a quiet submission to the hand of God. Like Jesus they have forever been under attack, and always will be. The enmity of the world persecutes what it hates. The cross includes loss and damage, the greatest losses as well as the least. It speaks shame and reproach. It imports pain and torture that cries, “Now I begin to be a disciple.” It imports death itself. Yoking the conscience, the will, to Christ, makes sin more hateful, conscience stronger, world less tempting, grace more abundant, prayer more affectionate, and life more fruitful. Pain and struggle has its rewards. @larrygrowe
