Another thing I love about the Bible is how deliciously controversial it is. It's interesting to see some Christians ignore the parts they don't agree with and argue strongly for the parts they do agree with. I don't know, can we have it both ways?

1 Corinthians 14:33-35
For God is not a God of confusion but of peace. As in all the churches of the saints,
the women should keep silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be in submission, as the Law also says.
If there is anything they desire to learn, let them ask their husbands at home. For it is shameful for a woman to speak in church.

  1. No women pastors, no problem. Too many ignore 1 Cor. 12:15+ and claim "because you won't give me the office I want, you keep me from being part of the body."

  2. You're exactly right. Some passages are difficult but God in His infinite wisdom have them there. We work through them and don't ignore them.

    1. Skip,
What a mature attitude. God does have infinite wisdom and I have come to trust Him completely even when I don't get it.

  3. Note: "as the LAW says" The law doesn't say that anymore, does it? from Sendy, with wishes of Love, Peace & Happiness

  4. This is one of those passages where I think that perhaps we're hearing the philosophy of Paul (and elsewhere he admits there are times when he is speaking for himself, not God), and not necessarily God's authoritative view on the subject. To that point in history, women had made many contributions to the Church, including speaking in Church to believers. Was that done in error? I think not.

    1. Women clearly make a huge contribution to the early church. I run up against Paul and his take on things all the time when reading the bible. Do you just pray for discernment? Can it be "just take what you need and leave the rest?" I find that hard to digest.
